Kids Pottery Workshop - Creating Easter Decor
(Ages 5 to 14)
Sat., March 23, 2013 (9:30 am- 11 am)
This introductory level workshop for kids will be led by local artist Sandy Webb from Brandon. Sandy will be teaching pinched pottery which is a great way to create pottery that has a nice, organic look to it. Kids will enjoy the interactive nature of this class that will have them create a couple of their own Easter Pieces.
Cost: $19 per person, supplies are included. Seating is limited. Moms are welcomed to assist younger students. Reserve your child's spot by Friday, March 22. Refreshments & snacks will be provided. The class will be held at The Emporium. Call (601) 667-3670 to reserve a spot.

Pinched Pottery Workshop
Sat., March 23, 2013, 11 am- 1 pm

nice, organic look to it. Sandy besides giving an overview of this technique, she will share some pointers on making strong pinch pots and how it can be taken even farther to make more complex
forms.
Each member of the class will create their own pinched piece of pottery. The class will last three hours and will conclude with a Q & A session.

Faux Finishing Class
Sat., March 23, 2013
(2 pm- 5 pm)
This class will be led by the well-known artist Cherry Rountree, who has been doing faux finishing professionally for the last 16 years. Many of the finer homes in the metro Jackson area feature works by Cherry. She is routinely contracted by home builders and was featured recently in the Parade of Homes.
Cherry will be teaching several techniques showing you how to update walls, cabinets and furniture. The class will last three hours and will conclude with a Q & A session.

ARTS ON THE SQUARE
Fri., April 19, 2013 (5 pm - 8 pm) and Sat., April 20, 2013 (10 am- 4pm)
Bi-annual two-day event to showcase the creative craftmen and artisans who make Canton unique! Participating shops & galleries around the Historic Square will each have featured artists / craftsmen demonstrating their particular craft. There will be live music and face painting for the kids. The Emporium during this event will feature ten different artisans demonstrating their crafts and will be serving various snacks & refreshments.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
Saturday, April 27, 2013 (10 am- 1 pm)
A "hands-on" photography workshop where you and a small group of fellow students along with photo artist Lisette Otero-Lewis will go around the Historic Canton Square (weather permitting) taking photos of certain subjects.
During the "walk around the square" you will discuss lighting, motion, proper framing and other issues that affects the photo taking process. Afterwards, the class will review the photos taken during the field trip and compare notes.
In the second part of the workshop, you will learn several methods of uploading your images to the computer and about the various editing software packages now available.
Our class will be led by photo artist Lisette Otero-Lewis, who just moved here from Miami and is finishing up her Bachelor's in Fine Arts (Photography) at
Belhaven University. She recently led a worshop for the Jackson Photography Club, and her colorization photo series of Historic Canton has been very well received.
The class will last three hours and will conclude with a Q & A session.

CANTON FLEA MARKET - SPRING

The Flea Market attracts to Canton over 1,100 superior artists & craftsmen to showcase handcrafted items of pottery, jewelry, paintings, antiques and unique arts & crafts. What a wonderful way to spend the day shopping in a perfect setting with so many treasures yet to be discovered!

SUNSET SYMPHONY ON THE SQUARE
Saturday, May 18, 2013 (6 pm-8 pm)
The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra will perform an outdoor concert on Canton’s Historic Downtown Square. Bring your lawn chairs and picnic baskets to enjoy the Symphony and local entertainment. The Canton Chamber will be hosting the concession stand selling freshly grilled Hamburgers for $3 and Hot Dogs for $2 along with Sno-cones, Nachos, Popcorn and Sodas/Water. Canton Square Farmers Market
Saturdays - 9 am to Noon

Bigger this year with more vendors...A Farmer's Market on the Historic Canton Square (North Side facing Center Street.) The Market will feature fresh fruit and vegetables, herbs, plants
and fresh eggs.

Mississippi Women's Conference 2013

Weather Mini-Camp

If your child (or someone you know) is interested in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, oceanography or storm chasing, then be sure to let them know about this fun weather
mini-camp returning to Canton in 2013.
Professional Storm Chaser and TV Weather Personality Vincent Webb will lead this mini-camp. Recently, Vincent was an instructor for a Weather Camp at Howard University in Washington,
DC. Currently at the old age of 19, he one of the youngest pro storm chasers in the country! He been interviewed along with his weather video has been used on The Weather
Channel, CNN and Fox News.
With this mini-camp, you'll become more weather-wise while learning how storms form and how certain we can be of tomorrow's weather. Plus, discover how to read and analyze weather
charts and how to use forecast models to predict the weather.
The mini-camp will also discuss the myriad of career choices that are available and how to best go after them. The class will last three hours and will conclude with a
Q & A session.

Creating Your Own Terrarium Workshop

This interactive workshop on Creating Terrariums will be led by Canton's very own "Gardening Angel" Deloris Townes.
Deloris will show you special tricks and techniques on creating and maintaining a successful terrarium.
Supplies are included so you can create your own terrarium and take it home with you.

6TH ANNUAL "SIP 'N CIDER"!

Each year thousands come to the Historic Canton Square for a great time at the annual Sip 'N Cider! Each store around the Square will be preparing and serving their own special blend of Hot Cider to shoppers (most merchants will also serve up delightful & tasty Christmas treats for the shoppers.) Shoppers will vote for which merchant has the best Hot Cider.
